Well, Hello There: An Introduction To Me.

Who I am: Hi, I'm Jess. Glad that's out of the way, I was worried you wouldn't like me. I've spent the past years honing the skill of really "qualifying" and getting to know buyers and sellers on a personal level. I've successfully turned around the Long Island Internet Referral Business (if you're here to read about Manhattan Real Estate and Mortgage Contingencies, move along) for one of New York's largest real estate companies (no need to name names, People). I've become somewhat of a "Real Estate Matchmaker," if you will. I'm the ultimate middle-man, the buffer of all buffers. You tell me, I tell them and we all get paid. I am not the founder of anything major (...yet! I'm young!), and I do not own a multi-million dollar corporation. I'm just a girl who has found herself in the position of having something to say, and hoping people will be entertained/educated by what I'm saying. I ask, up front, don't take what I'm saying too seriously (I make jokes. I should have been Sarah Silverman, but alas, I'm not), but do take it to heart. I spend my days talking to "people." Not buyers/sellers/renters/investors, but mothers/fathers/sisters/your uncle, Moe. People. I take what I do very seriously, and hope you can benefit from some of my stories from "people" I've spoken to, and agents (you're people, too. Calm down) I've connected with.  I've received a lot of back lash for being "too colloquial," but let's face it, people just want to have a conversation. No one wants to feel less than the person they are speaking with. My goal here is to share stories and perhaps offer some insight into concepts such as "buyers are liars," and "agents are just as bad as used car salesmen." I've come to find these to hold some truth, but mostly are false. There are exceptions to every rule. Let me prove that to you.

Why I do what I do: Anyone can obtain a real estate license. Scary, right? While I started out as your basic, everyday knock-on-doors-please-let-me-sell-your-home agents (I was pretty damn good at it, too), I realized I had a much bigger calling. The people needed me! Maybe it's not 100% clear what I actually do. Let me clarify - I speak to "people," (fine, for this I will say buyers/sellers/renters/investors) and based on their criteria, I put them in touch with the most appropriate agent (or as I like to call "specialist") for their search. Think about it, you could call into any local real estate company to find an agent to help you, but will they really "get" you?! Probably not. Will you ever speak to them again after the initial meeting? Again, probably not. Wouldn't it behoove you to speak to someone, like me, who will get a feel for not only your search, but your personality and then be able to connect you to someone (gasp!) who you actually ENJOY working with?! Just like there is true love out there for everyone, there is an agent for everyone. Let me lighten the already stressful load of a real estate transaction by putting you in good, qualified hands. That being said, don't call me after 5:30....I need to maintain a social life, People.

Why you should "trust" me: I use the term "trust" very loosely. In my job, I base all of my relationships over a phone conversation. There is very little face-to-face interaction. Similarly to here, we will probably never meet. However, I am at a point in my career that people I've never met trust me with their deepest and darkest. Imagine, feeling comfortable enough with a total stranger (i.e me) to tell them why that beautiful 5bdr/3bath house on the LI Sound is going into foreclosure. As odd as it sounds, it happens everyday. I've become the "go-to" for many people as a problem solver. I have alleviated more people's stresses than I have ever begun to alleviate my own. So, I ask you to take a leap of faith, and listen to what I have to say. Who knows? You might actually get something out of it.

What I will do on this "blog": I never really understood the point of a blog until I sat through one of (the brilliant and talented) Esther Muller's continuing education classes. After hearing the co-founder of theapplepeeled.com (another GREAT real estate blog to check out), I thought to myself "Well, Jess. You have a BA in Creative Writing and a lot to offer. This is great platform for you." I will be sharing my day-to-day experiences with the buyers, sellers and agents I work with. This will not become a platform to "bitch." I love what I do, and while my job offers some frustrations, I will only offer solutions here...not complaints. Everything can have a positive spin, and I ask that you keep an open mind while reading through my stories.
